What Is Unburdening in Internal Family Systems?
Unburdening is the process where wounded parts release painful beliefs, emotions, or memories they have been carrying, such as shame, fear, or worthlessness. This happens when the Self and protectors create enough safety for the part to let go of what it had to hold in the past. After unburdening, parts often shift into healthier, supportive roles.
